About DrawTape
Last updated 2026-10-25
DrawTape is a set of browser tools for people who handle technical drawings: tradespeople, estimators, makers, students and anyone who has been sent a DWG and has no CAD program. The tools open a file, show it, measure it and convert it.
What it does
- Opens DWG, DXF and PDF drawings, plus PNG and JPG plans.
- Measures distances, areas, angles and counts, with a scale you set or the units stored in the drawing.
- Totals length and area per layer and the number of copies of each block in a DWG or DXF.
- Converts a drawing to a vector PDF, a PNG or JPG image, an SVG or a DXF, and a vector PDF page to DXF.
How it works
- The file stays on your device. The drawing is read inside your browser tab. The site has no upload form and no server that receives your files. The two readers (one for DWG and DXF, one for PDF) are downloaded when you first open a file of that kind.
- Numbers come from the drawing. Lengths and areas are calculated from the drawing’s own geometry, not from the lines drawn on screen, and the code is tested against drawings whose answers are known.
- Limits are stated. Each tool page lists what is not drawn or converted, such as paper-space layouts, external references and hatch patterns. See Credits for the open-source libraries used and their licences.
